About Us
GIS is just a new way of looking at things spatially or geographically. It can be used to inventory the changes in our landscape and document the events taking place. As in other disciplines, it is only useful when people understand what it is and how it works.
The City of Richmond's GIS Office creates and maintains various mapping layers for analytical and cartographic purposes. Our ESRI software allows us to handle any analytical project ranging from identifying a location, measuring distances, to calculating areas. In line with this information, the GIS staff has also compiled a complete address system for the city down to the parcel level and coded street segment of address ranges for precise locations of addresses in the city.
